The International Research and Philosophy Symposium

2009 IRAPS - Call for Abstracts

A Conference on Advances in Chiropractic Science and Philosophy

Advances in Chiropractic Science and Philosophy takes center stage at Sherman College October 16-18, 2009, for the sixth annual International Research and Philosophy Symposium (IRAPS), which is presented on Sherman’s campus in South Carolina.

Abstracts on the topic of Advances in Chiropractic Science and Philosophy are being accepted through April 30.

Theme

The chiropractic profession would benefit from one to several acceptable approaches to correction of the theoretical vertebral subluxation. These approaches should focus on the identity of phenomena associated with disturbances to the nervous system which have been shown to respond to various forms of chiropractic applications of force.

While many viewpoints on various approaches have been expressed in different venues, IRAPS 2009 will focus on those approaches for which the following basic criteria have been met:

• A description of the rational underpinning the clinical approach(s).
• A basis of evidence that supports the underpinning of each approach.
• Outcomes research that verifies the approaches to correction of disturbances to the nervous system.
• Advances in the evolution of chiropractic philosophy regarding aspects of clinical care. These can range from identification of the “type and form” of neurological disturbance(s), to different approaches to their correction.
• Papers are invited that purport to advance the professions’ philosophical and clinical perspectives of chiropractic. Acceptable topics are listed, but not limited to the following:
• Functional operational definitions of nerve disturbance
• Prospective viewpoints pointing the direction for the future of the chiropractic profession.
• Outcomes research regarding various approaches to documenting the nerve disturbance component
• The importance of critically evaluating the philosophy originally formulated by the Palmers
• Interdisciplinary research that recognizes the benefits of chiropractic care.
• Topics not included in this list will also be considered.
